Wallpapered

It took until yesterday evening at 10 pm until it was finished but I just knew that I’d be very about it this morning. I was so right!

I’m on holiday for the next two weeks and I’m so looking forward to decorating, cleaning, making our appartment ready for Christmas and cooking and bakong. Boy, I LOVE Christmas and I’m so happy that I finally have the time to actually enjoy it and prepare for it!

Damn Kitchen

I wish I could have written this “Yay, our kitchen is done and this is how it looks now”-post weeks ago, but of course everything is so much more complicated than you think when you plan to redo your kitchen. I’m not going to rant on all the things that went wrong and then we’re still not finished, because today I’m very happy about the things that actually ARE finished in our kitchen.

This is where we eat. Allthough one wall is still “naked” and there are boxes standing around with things I couldn’t put into the pantries because some of them still aren’t up, I love it. We often sit here, drink tea and eat and are just happy with how far we’ve come.

And this is our new kitchen dresser I have been waiting for to find for months if not years. It’s an old dresser I found on eBay a few weeks ago and got it for only 25 Euros. I posted a before-picture over at Flickr (just scroll a bit down, the picture is linked in the comments) if you’re interested in why it was so cheap. I love this dresser, we store so many things in it that didn’t even had it’s own place in our old kitchen. So, this one I love as well. :)

I hope I’ll be back soon with pictures of our whole kitchen. If not, I might be back soon with a post ranting on old buildings with terribly crooked walls nobody could ever place a kitchen in. :)

Beautiful Mess

We started. We bought paint and some boards yesterday and then I started to paint our walls. I’m a lot faster than I thought I wouuld be, although we constantly have to move things around. But it works and I think we can do this when we’re re-doing the floor as well. Make some space by moving the cabinets and the other stuff, remove the old floor, put in the new one, move furniture back in place. In ten days we’ll have a bulky refuse in our street and up to then I want to throw everything away that we don’t need anymore. And hopefully IKEA will deliver our new kitchen until then.

I actually didn’t paint the one wall because we’re going to wallpaper it. But the two longer walls on the sides are now nearly totally white, yay!

I’m off to moving the cabinets again to the place where they’re supposed to be so that maybe we can actually cook some dinner in there (looking at it now I’d say it’s impossible but it looks much worse than it is).

Goodbye, kitchen!

Our kitchen. I think this is the only room (besides our bath room) that hasn’t dramatically changed since we moved in here five and a half years ago.  The only things that have been replaced and changed again and again are the kitchen table and the chairs.

I really loved this kitchen and somehow I still do. We’ve spent so many great hours in it, we argued in it and had dinner after that. I spent whole days in it with frieds baking cookies and with Max making food. It has also always been our guest room and (I hope they didn’t lie to me) all guests didn’t feel as if they were sleeping in a kitchen but just in a very comfortable room.

But now I feel that it’s time for a change. We’re really doing it, people. We’re going to renovate our kitchen. From head to toe, with a new floor, new walls, new cabinets, new shelves. I’ve got this image in my head of my dream kitchen and I’m so hoping that I’ll be able to transform our kitchen in this image. Keep your fingers crossed!

So much space

I didn’t move any furniture, painted walls or bought new things. I did browse all my favourite online shops at least once a day, filled the basket but never went to the checkout. Instead I went through all our drawers and filled box after box with things that we just don’t need. And these things either went straight to the trash can or I sold them on eBay. I sold or gave away half the clothes I had. And although I nearly only made space in our drawers and inside our closets, it feels as if there was so much more space in our living room.

There’s definitely so much more to do. Like this cable on the floor you can see in the picture above. It’s the cable for the TV in our bedroom and we wanted to fix this for nearly one year now, but there was always something that had been more important or more urgent. If I can keep it up with the cleaning and “curing” of our home, I don’t think we’ll have many excuses left to still postpone it. :)

Something I hadn’t done for quite a while as well: Just watching TV, drinking tea and lightning some candles, just because I couldn’t enjoy sitting in our living room. I really missed it.

(Do you actually sometimes click through my Flickr photostream? I sometimes feel a bit strange to always post the same pictures here and over there at flickr, so this time I uploaded another two pictures of our living room. Visit me there. :))
